Civil War Pensions
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the pandemic, the National Archives is currently closed to the public, so there is currently no access to the pension files.
As part of my research project on the 7th West Virginia Cavalry, I have found that pension records can be an invaluable source of information. However, pension records are still in paper format at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. It is both cost and time prohibitive for me to obtain copies of all soldiers in the regiment. I am asking that descendants who obtain copies of their ancestor’s pension file to provide me with a xerox copy, or even better, an electronic copy in pdf format.
Use the Contact Form to contact me and obtain my mailing address. Thank you for your willingness to share this information with me. It is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve Cunningham
